Overview

The Gadsden Purchase was the buying of a small chunk of land from Mexico in the winter of 1853. It was bought to have a viable route for the Southern Transcontinental Railroad.

The Purchase was named after James Gadsden and was the last change to the borders of the U.S. with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii.
